Campus Life

Life in a Residence Hall
Residence hall life is a learning process that builds on
life lessons. It is an integral part of the educational experience
that forms lasting friendships and contributes to academic
achievement and interpersonal development.
Single students enrolled for nine or more hours or completing a degree program are expected to live in College housing. Exceptions to this include married and/or commuting students living at home. Any other students with extenuating circumstances who wish to live off campus must make a written request to the Dean of Students. The College administration considers each request individually.
Student Development Staff
Students and staff work together to encourage an easy flow
of communication, adherence to proper standards and a respect
for one another.
Resident Assistants (RAs) - Upper-class students serving
as role models within the residence halls as well as resource
persons, liaisons and informal counselors.
Residence Directors (RDs) - Residence
hall managers who oversee RAs, supervise students, and take
care of needs that arise in the residence hall.
Dean of Students - Coordinator, supervisor and trainer of the entire Student
Development Staff.
Spiritual Development
Students are encouraged to strengthen their relationship
with Christ through regular worship services and daily private
devotions. There are many opportunities for worship and ministry
as a number of churches are within easy driving distance.
Chapel services, residence hall devotions, field participation
and mission trips are also encouraged.
Chapel
Chapel worship is designed to provide spiritual encouragement
in addition to strengthening and molding Christian
character. SLCC has the following guidelines in regards
to chapel attendance:
- Students with nine or more
hours, or those in a degree program, are required to
attend chapel.
- Students are allowed absences for
sickness, ministry/job conflicts or extenuating circumstances.
- Chapels
missed due to hospitalization, emergencies or school-sponsored
activities may be waived through the Dean of Students
Office.
Student
Leadership
The emotional growth of students can be enhanced through
leadership roles among their peers. The College offers a
number of ways to take a leadership role within the student
community:
Student Government Association (SGA) - Student Government
acts as a liaison between the student body and the administration.
SGA duties include regular meetings, planning activities
and assisting with new student orientation. Officers are
elected by each class. Upper-class representatives are selected
in the spring prior to their term, while freshman representatives
are selected early in the fall semester.
World Christians United (WCU) -
The mission of WCU is to build intercultural awareness
and create a vision for Christian evangelistic services.
This group accomplishes its goals through regular
meetings, prayer times and service projects. WCU
may also appoint a representative to the SGA.
Class Officers - Students of each class elect their
president, vice president, secretary/treasurer, and a faculty
sponsor.
Student Activities
The goal of Saint Louis Christian College is to aid students
to develop as well-rounded Christians. The College encourages
and provides activities allowing students to explore another
dimension of interpersonal growth.
Athletics - Saint Louis Christian College is a member
of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).
The Soldiers compete against mostly NAIA and other NCCAA colleges
in baseball, soccer, basketball and volleyball.
Camp Teams - The Admissions Department
selects students to represent SLCC during the summer at various
camps, conferences and churches. Camp teams are chosen in
the spring.
Music Groups - SLCC has an ensemble group that performs at various churches and in chapel services throughout the year. Auditions are held at the beginning
of each semester.
Musical/Drama Programs - SLCC
supports musical/drama outreach programs that provide
a cultural development opportunity every other spring.
Students with musical and dramatic abilities and
interests are encouraged to audition.
Student Wellness
Wellness Committee - SLCC encourages students
to maintain good health practices. The Dean of Students chairs
this committee, establishing health policies and student
education, including drug and alcohol awareness.
Health Policy - SLCC does not maintain
an on-campus dispensary, as a number of excellent health
facilities are available within a short distance. Cases of
chronic illness, accidents or other medical emergencies should
be reported at once to the Residence Director (for those
in residence halls) or the Dean of Students.
Drugs & Alcohol Policy - In keeping with the Drug-Free
Workplace Act of 1988 and the Drug-Free Schools and Communities
Act Amendments of 1988, no use of alcohol or any controlled
or unlawful substance is condoned on the campus of SLCC at
any time.
Campus Security - SLCC currently employs
campus security personnel who regularly patrol the campus. Campus Security
may be reached by calling (314) 303-6208
(cell) or (314) 837-6777 ext. 1206. Campus
Security can also be reached by e-mail at security@slcconline.edu.
